The oldest Association in the Anglican Church with three and a half million members world-wide, the Mothers’ Union was started over 130 years ago. The St Mary’s branch has been in existence since 1907 and today has 21 members. We meet on the first Wednesday of each month at 1.45pm in the Upper Room of the Church and anyone who has been baptised can become a member. We have a varied and interesting programme and visitors are always welcome.
Our Branch financially supports the Mothers’ Union overseas programmes which provide education, health and child rearing and protection schemes and we hope that we shall soon make direct contact with the Mothers’ Union branch in Kibakwe, Tanzania, the town with which the Church hopes to arrange a ‘twinning’.
Locally, our members raise money by various means to support Church and community projects. For example:
We have provided financial support for educational purposes;
We have provided practical home care such as meals and laundry facilities for families when in need;
We also support families in times of difficulty throughout the year and especially at Christmas;
And
To introduce the Mothers’ Union to young families, we present a floral posy to the mothers of children being baptised.
We support many local fund-raising ventures, especially within the Church. For further information please phone Sue Morgan on 01892 722388 or the Reverend Gwen Smith at the Vicarage on 01732-850238
