History
| World Mission Committee: St Mary’s recognises the importance of maintaining a watch on the many different groups of people away from the parish and across the world who are in great need of help. These include those whose needs arise because they live in areas of deprivation, famine and poverty, where natural crises make their lives difficult and where curable diseases abound because resources are not available to deal with them. Elsewhere within populations where these problems are not so prevalent many lives are spoiled by problems such as homelessness, personal abuse and traumas including those associated with drug addiction and the effects of imprisonment for past crimes. Many charities exist to support and restore to normal life those who suffer in these various ways. They all need funds to support their work and rely on voluntary donations.
Each year St Mary’s donates to Christian and other charities working in these areas of difficulty and tries to make donations to ten to fifteen charities a year. Additionally we support Christian Aid; The Children’s Society and the Delhi Brotherhood Society. The annual total of away giving which arises through the efforts of St Mary’s congregation is about £10,000.
